That's one of the things I want you to understand today. If some of you have high blood pressure, cholesterol issues, diabetes, you've got your neurotoxic. We're going to show you how to move away from high carbs and you got to have another source of energy. And the other source of energy is fat. So, good fat though not bad fat. The only way to the good life, the right approach is maximized living.
Fat makes you fat. Who's heard that before? My wife and I go around this all the time. I'll put like nuts on the salad, and I'm like, "Why are you eating those?" And she's like, "That's like putting cheese on my eggs." And I'm like, "No, it's not." But, the reality is she's always saying, "That's going to make you fat." I'll go, "No, it's not. Fat is not going to make you fat." There's something that makes you fat. It's your inability to burn it. It's your inability to burn fat that makes you fat. Good fats actually help your body burn fat.
And then, here's always the thing you hear. If my parents have heart disease, so will I. Why should I change? They kind of link it up as this death sentence, Cheryl. So, they think, "If my mom or dad had heart disease, I'm going to get it, too." And the reality is, in Okinawa, some of you heard me talk about Okinawans before. There's over 30,000 centenarians in Okinawa right now. Thirty thousand centenarians, could you imagine that? I always joke around on the Today Show, the guy that does the Smucker's thing there where they've got the jelly? Could you imagine trying to punch through a thousand of those a day because there are so many centenarians here in America? Could you imagine that? But in Okinawa, the studies are this. Centenarians have the same high-risk genes and low-risk genes as Americans. But guess what, they're living longer and healthier than us. They're actually sayin!
g that, in Okinawa, they have a healthier lifestyle than us. So, we could probably learn something from them.
I'll have patients come in my office, and they come in; they're complaining of elbow, shoulder, hip, knee, and joint pain. One of the things we look at are like, "Are you taking a statin drug?" And clearly, if they are on a statin drug, one of the side effects is joint pain. It could be their spine, could be their back, could be their knee, could be their…that's one of the side effects.
So, we start looking at the data. Cholesterol caused heart disease. More true. Statin drugs do lower cholesterol. There's no doubt about it. They do lower your cholesterol. But, they do not reduce the risk of stroke. They do not reduce the risk of heart attack. Recent studies show and I was just telling you this, no one over 65 should take this. Statin drugs cause heart failure due to the depletion of co-enzyme Q10, which is an energy source for the heart. Statin drugs have also been linked to liver problems and joint pain.
More people have heart attacks nowadays with normal cholesterol than with elevated cholesterol. And now, they're finding there's a higher death rate with lower cholesterol patients than with higher cholesterol. This was in the New England Journal of Medicine. And recently, in the newsletter we put out, the stats were, if you had a cholesterol, they study patients that were 65 years and older, if you have a cholesterol number of 178 or lower, you got a higher chance of having a heart attack than if your cholesterol was 275 to 400. Can you imagine that? 275 to 400. You'd think, "Oh my gosh, my cholesterol is through the roof." You actually have less of a chance to have a heart attack than someone who's 180 or less.
Here's the reality. It's when you oxidize cholesterol that's in your body…by the way, 5% of cholesterol is taken in through your food. That's how 5% of cholesterol is made. So, if you have a high cholesterol diet, eggs and all these high things, only 5% comes in through that way. It's made in your liver. The majority of cholesterol is produced in your liver. It says it's the oxidization of the cholesterol that causes heart disease and plaquing.
Now, let's look at some myth busters. A lot of people you know, some of you in this room might be on cholesterol medications? Right? You know people that are on cholesterol medication who have heart disease. Let's look at this. Cholesterol causes heart disease. Who thinks that's true? No one's going to raise their hand in here today? So, people have been told that if you have high cholesterol, that will cause heart disease, correct? &n!
bsp; That's kind of what's been out there.
I was reading…we did a talk on vaccines and you'll understand why I talk about this in just a minute. But many unfavorable studies aren't published. I was reading last night with our neighbor. We have this whole conversation and dialogue going on, on vaccines. And Jordan and I actually were talking yesterday. He's like, "If there was negative studies published on whatever it was, they wouldn't want to publish that and get it out there 'cause then you would start thinking, "Wow, if I'm putting this in my body and it's bad, you wouldn't want to use their products." So, that's why a lot of these studies aren't published.
It's interesting when you start looking at all these things. The latest news on allergy and asthma medications. US Food and Drug Administration issued a MedWatch Safety informing doctor and patients about the link between Singulair, did you hear this a couple of months ago? And suicide. &nbs!
p;Also on the news. The reviews find no good drugs for dementia. College students now abusing prescription drugs more than ever. Many unfavorable drug studies aren't published.
So, look at this. Just some background over the last few years. So, almost 60,000 men and women between '92 and 2002 use antiinflammatory drugs after their first acute heart attack. Here's what happened. Compare that with people not taking these drugs. Celebrex, and have you heard of that drug? Four percent greater chance of death. Vioxx, anybody see that whole Vioxx thing that went through a couple of years ago? Five times greater chance of death. Over-the-counter drugs, Advil, ibuprofen, and Motrin, two times greater chance of death. The studies in this field have revealed that the major safety concerns were present where none were expected.
And it's interesting. The definition of Type II Medical Malpractice: When a treatment has no proven benefit, there is no acceptable risk. So, what they found was there's really no benefit to this drug which was the top-selling drug in the world!
for the last 20 years. And now, they're finding out that it's not very beneficial at all.
Now, look at this. Here's the latest news on cholesterol drugs. I'm just going to share to you what's out there because do cholesterol drugs do any good? BusinessWeek came out and there's a couple of things they said. They said cholesterol drugs, yes, they lower cholesterol. They cause muscle breakdown. By the way, what's the heart made of? Muscle? They cause muscle breakdown. They cause mental decline. They said no one under the age of 65 should be taking these drugs. And one of the side effects was cancer. So, they had three things. In this article, they also talked about the other side effects. Headaches, constipation, diarrhea, joint pain, upset stomach, liver failure, liver problems.
MSNBC researchers find placebos worked just as well. Placebo effect common in antidepressant, depressed people can improve without chemical treatments. I was reading on the…I plugged in to our Maximized Living network, and doctors were always emailing each other. One of the ones that came across this last week that said, "Exercise…" Alex, you'll love this in the back from Northwest Personal Training. "Exercise beats antidepressants. Exercise beats antidepressants all day long." And so, that's just what we're starting to see antidepressants have severe side effects. Suicide, violent rage, insomnia, all kinds of different problems associated with these medications.
Look at this. I'm going to go through some things. And those of you who come to our office and see our newsletters, I'm always sharing this information. I was on the Internet this morning, reading stuff, and preparing for today. But look at this, the latest news on antidepressants. There was a shooting recently, wasn't there this week? Outside of the US. Anybody know where it was? Finland. And there's a link between antidepressants and all these shooting. I got this headline that says, "Antidepressants. There is a continual link between people on antidepressants and these violent behaviors. The latest news, lawmakers catch antidepressant makers hiding the suicide risk." And these are just what's out there now.
I was telling Jordan yesterday when we were at the TV show. There's a Costanza rule. We're talking with this lady and I said the George Costanza, and if you watch Seinfeld, anybody of you who see him? Well, he did the opposite of whatever he did. There was a segment where he did the opposite. And so, he did the opposite of everything he was doing. He got a girlfriend. He got a job. He started making money. He started doing the opposite of what everybody else was doing, and his life started to improve. And the reality is we keep doing what we're doing, we're going to keep getting more and more of this. And so, we want to look at doing what George Costanza did. We want to do what everybody else isn't doing. We're going to start applying these principles to make changes in our lives.
Here is where health care is right now. And if we look at this or if we look at this as Americans, we are dead last. We are dead last in health care. US healthcare system gets an F, highest death rate before the age of 2 and the last at age 60. Do you realize that? Two-year-olds have the highest death rate of any country in the world. In America, we have the highest death rate at age 60 than any other country. They were last for years of potential life. We are last. We are second to last in longevity. US is the most depressed country in the world. And what are the top-selling drugs? Eight of the 10 top-selling drugs are antidepressants. Look at this. We are the leader in adult and childhood obesity. And this is the reality. There's a Costanza rule.
So, let's look here. The state of the world. I want to give you some doom-and-gloom stats because, you know what, it's interesting. Wayne Gretzky. I always love Wayne Gretzky 'cause he…they interviewed him and they would ask him. They were like, "Why are you so good? Why do you score so many goals?" And he said, "You know what? It's all about one thing. I know where the puck is going to be. I don't go where the puck is." So, in Wayne Gretzky's land in hockey, he knows the puck is going to be over there in a matter of a couple of seconds or place or whatever, that's where he goes. He goes where he knows the puck's going to be. He doesn't stay where the puck is 'cause that's where everybody gets hurts and injured. He's going where the puck's going to be.
Jim is coming up in a…you wanted to be in the camera? All right. All right. Thank you.
I want you to be the one-in-a-million. That's what gets me excited. That's what gets me up. That's what makes me do these programs. That's what makes me team up with these other doctors. So, do you think it's possible…do you think it's possible to have a maximized life? Where? Where? Here's the deal. For anyone at any age or with any genetics, have you heard that now? It's genetics. That's why I get sick and diseased. No matter what you did up to this point today, you can change, you can get better, you can get well.
There's only a one-in-a-million shot. I want you to be that one-in-a-million. And some of you who did testimonials of today, amazing. Yesterday, pretty amazing. I picked up Jordan yesterday morning at 8 o'clock at his house, and we went down to Channel 2 and they filmed this yesterday. And he was talking about his success, and I just sat back. I'm like, "That's amazing." And I feel like I didn't do any of it, he did it all. And I just showed him where the information was and just supported him and his family and stuff. It's not about me. So, it's just amazing, the changes that can happen.
So, the Law of Reversal, we know, we know wherever you are, whether you're sick or diseased or you feel great, we know that you can be better than who you are. And if we look right now, in the US, at the age of 60, some of you are there; some of you aren't there yet. But at the age of 60, they estimate that only one in a thousand will be healthy. That's the reality in America, one in a thousand. One in ten thousand couples. If you're married, one in ten thousand couples will be healthy at age 60. And if you have a family, if you have a family, only one-in-a-million shot that you're family will be experienced Maximized Living through their life.
And the reality is, is in health care with you, your family, our community, we've really got a one-in-a-million shot of getting our health back. But, I want you to be that one-in-a-million. I want your family to be that one-in-a-million. I want our community to be th!
at one-in-a-million where we're getting our health's back and we're getting back on track and we're getting our lives back. And you're seeing the testimonials. The diabetes is going away. The MS is clearing up. People are losing weight. These are just results of what we see happen.
So, I always like to start with Rocky Balboa. If we look up here, we've got…am I going too fast here? Here he is. So, if we look up here, Rocky Balboa, his whole life was a one-in-a-million shot, wasn't it? So, here's this guy from out in the middle of nowhere, he knows nothing, and you've got the heavyweight champion of the world that he's going up against. And what does Rocky do? He's got this one-in-a-million shot of beating this heavyweight champion, and what does he do? He takes him down.
Anyway, I just want to welcome everybody. For those we haven't met, I'm Dr. Troy. I've been practicing for the last 15 years. And about five years ago, I came across what we're going to be talking about today, is Maximized Living, and as a chiropractor, well, they really trained us this philosophy that I want to teach today. I'm going to challenge some of you today. Some of you and your way of thinking, we're going to challenge that today. And really, if you apply what I'm going to tell you, this will change your life.Read more: Maximized Living Makeover
