WHAT STRESS???
By: Dr. Jennifer Carson
The Holidays are coming up quickly and in these times people’s lives tend to be more hectic. We must always remember that whatever we do in our daily lives affects our bodies on a cellular level. This cellular level translates into tissues, those tissues turn into organs and then organ systems. The end result = you! This is why it’s so important to maintain the system that runs it all: the nervous system. When your brain and spinal nerves are connected to each other your body is functioning at 100%. This means that you are living life as intended. Your body will heal a cut; it will heal a cold and even prevent cancer as long as its communication line (your nervous system) is open. Now once you’ve got the nervous system working and your body functioning you have to do all you can to support this system. Subluxation or misalignment of the bone can be caused by stress physical, chemical, and emotional. It is up to us to take measures to prevent stress. During the holidays it’s easy to get overloaded.
Here are some tried and true methods that have been utilized by many successful, busy, unstressed, humans. Empower yourself: keep on track with your adjustments and enjoy the Holidays Subluxation and stress free!
Breathe
- Proper breathing has a dramatic impact on muscle relaxation, tension reduction, lowering heart rate, and increasing mental clarity. Lie down on your spinal sleeping aids to try this. Put your hand on your stomach and breathe in to feel your stomach rise, place your other hand on your chest and try not to breathe through your lunges. This takes practice but the benefits are astronomical.
- Practice this when you are exercising you will be able to exercise longer and more efficiently.
Organize, Organize, Organize!
- Don’t let overwhelm take a hold of you. Take a piece of scrap paper or a small notebook and make a list the night before or early in the morning of six most important things you have to get done. Put the one you don’t want to do at the top. Procrastination and dread never make anyone feel good. Get that one done and move on. You can always add to the list!
Water ,Water, Water!
- Dehydration stresses the nervous system. In order to have proper function, all cellular processes, tissues regeneration, and detoxification you must be hydrated! When you are hydrated you will have more energy and mental clarity. Your immune system will be stronger. To get adequately hydrated take your body weight and multiply it by .5 or .7. This is the amount in ounces that you should be drinking. This may come to a surprise as many. Additionally if you drink caffeinated beverages you must drink two additional glasses of water to rehydrate yourself!
ME, ME, ME!
- We live in a society where we are constantly bombarded with noise and information. Take time for yourself and enjoy peace and quiet. Set your alarm early 10 -15 minutes and reflect on all that you have in life, what you accomplished yesterday, and what you are going to do today!
KEYS TO PEACE
- Listen to music! It rejuvenates the soul and classical stimulates the mind.
- Read! Focus on positive subjects that will empower you or motivate you.
- Make a gratitude list or better yet don’t let your feet touch the ground until you name 10 things your grateful for!
- Get a good night’s sleep. Many of us trim around our sleeping time which can lead to a crabby morning after. Be good to yourself shut down early and enjoy the day you’ve been given!
