Local Resources
This is a compilation of local food sources for those who live in the Portland Metro Area of Oregon and NW Washington. Below you will find a list of local classes taught by my Aunt Molly Wells, on various whole food cooking.
Raw Milk
Elice Turnbell - e-milk @ comcast.net (remove spaces) – Elice coordinates several raw cow’s milk drop sites around the Vancouver and Portland areas. She also has kefir grains.
Sustainable Farms
Kookoolan Farms - Yamhill, OR – Rabbit, duck, chicken, turkey, geese, grass fed beef, eggs from pastured chickens, cheese making supplies and more.
Dee Creek Farms – Woodland, WA – They have a few drop spots around Vancouver. They deliver raw cheese, eggs, veggies, chicken, and more!
Deo Volente Farms – Mullino, OR – offering free range chickens. This is a Christian homeschool family that offers the best price on chickens in the area!
Honey House Farms - Brush Prairie, WA – offering raw honey.
Thompson Farms - Damascus, OR – freshly picked produce is available at their two produce stands all season long (through November), including berries. They also offer u-pick options for all their berries. No sprays.
West Union Gardens – Hillsboro, OR – spray free berries and vegetables of all kinds.
Bella Organics – Sauvie Island, Portland – u-pick spray free berries and farm stand.
Grass-Fed Beef:
Karen’s Meats (Tillmook, OR) – Karen offers grass-fed beef for sale by the quarter. It is wonderful meat at a very reasonable price. She butchers in the spring and fall. Please let her know that I referred you to her. I have coordinated an annual order each fall for the past two years and she has been gracious to deliver it to Vancouver. Food Co-op Sources:
Balanced Talents Food Co-op - I am a part of this co-op in East Vancouver. We get high quality organic produce and many bulk food items at a very low price. They are also an Azure Standard drop spot.
West Vancouver Buying Club – The west Vancouver buy club is a group of neighbors, mostly in the Carter Park neighborhood of west Vancouver, Washington. They work together to purchase foods from a variety of local vendors. Membership fee of $5 per month.
Alberta Cooperative Grocery – Local store in Portland offering a wide range of organic produce, bulk items, and groceries with an emphasis on products grown locally and sustainably. Annual membership provides you with a 10% discount on all products in their store.
Twelve Mile Market - Gresham, OR – a local store committed to offering local and sustainable products. They sell bread, dairy, eggs, cereal, bulk foods, handmade soaps, full grocery selection and more.
Azure Standard – a wonderful food co-op based in The Dalles, OR but delivers all over Oregon & Washington. Here are a few drop spots:

NW Earth Institute- located in Portland OR. You can take part in free discussion groups in your neighborhood. Wonderful resource and a great way to met great people. Type in “eco tips” in the search bar and you will find some incredible info!
Green Posting – Review, rate and locate local sustainable businesses. More than a directory, its a community website.
Mirador Community Store – Wonderful kitchen and home products, all using products from the earth.
Portland Green Parenting – an online community sharing resources and ideas for sustainable living, finding food sources, etc.
Small Farms Finder – Locate small farms in Oregon/Washington through the WSU extension.
Vancouver Food Network – lots of excellent sources and information for residents of Vancouver, WA.
Sustainable Living on A Budget – workshops offered through the Metro Area on topics of sustainable living, bread baking, whole grains, etc.
Urban Farm School (Ridgefield, WA)- offering workshops on food preservation ansd helpful hints on gardening.
North Bank Magazine – this is a fun magazine highlighting events, stores, restaurant reviews of local resources in the SW Washington area. The magazine is offered free of charge and their website is regularly updated with local events.
