Preparation of food on a daily basis can be challenging. At our house, we
try to have a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and protein in our
diet. And because we are raising children, it is important that we stay as
healthy as possible; after all, energy is the "key" to keeping up with our
vigorous children. When I am not eating well, I notice my energy levels
dwindle.
Lately, I have been using "Google" to find new recipes. It is a great source of information and it has more recipes than you can ever use in a lifetime. My daughter is enjoying all the fresh fruits and vegetables that the summer months offer and incorporating the fresh summer bounty into recipes is appreciated by my entire family. One way to keep the food costs down is go to "pick your own" on some of the rural farms in Washington and Oregon. Sauvie's Island is an excellent area for that.

The High Price of Cheap Eats
Dollar “value meals” not so cheap when you look at the potential health costs.
menu items are packed with fat, salt, cholesterol and processed meat
The Cancer Project, a nonprofit cancer prevention organization. The group has produced a list of what it says are the five unhealthiest items sold at the nation’s largest fast food chains.
1. Jack in the Box’s junior bacon cheeseburger topped the list as the worst offender. The burger costs just one dollar but is packed with 23 grams of fat, including 8 grams of saturated fat, 55 milligrams of cholesterol and 860 milligrams of sodium and just one gram of fiber.
2. The 89-cent Taco Bell cheesy double beef burrito, with 460 calories, 20 grams of fat and a whopping 1,620 milligrams of sodium.
3. One-dollar Burger King breakfast sausage biscuit, with 27 grams of fat, including 15 grams of saturated fat and over 1,000 milligrams of sodium.
4. O-dollar McDonald’s McDouble, which contains 19 grams of fat and 65 milligrams of cholesterol.
5. Wendy’s junior bacon cheeseburger, for $1.53, with 310 calories and 16 grams of fat.
“It would be nice if they decided it was better for their budget to start preparing food at home more often," she said.
American Values Blamed For U.S. Health Care Crisis
2008 issue of the Science Daily. "To heal our ailing health care system, we need to stop thinking like Americans".
The U.S. government is projecting that we will spend $4 trillion on health care by 2015 which will represent 20 percent of the nation's gross domestic product.
[Yet we are 37th according to WHO…]
The Science Daily article also reported that in his paper, Dr. Nuwer, explained that 31 percent of U.S. health care expenditures go toward administration.
2008 Star Tribune in Minneapolis
listed "5 Misconceptions About Health Care" that helped clarify this issue.1. America has the best health care in the world. We have the most expensive system, but by most international measures we are far down the list on actual health care delivery.
2. Somebody else is paying for your health insurance. This is not true as we pay for health care either in taxes or as a deduction from salary.
3. We would save a lot if we could cut the administrative waste of private insurance. This point is debatable as some say that this cost is needed while others compare this with other countries that have considerably less administrative costs.
4. Health-care reform is going to cost a bundle - the bottom line is that we are already paying for a wasteful system that leaves out a large portion of our population.
5. If the rest of the world can offer health care at a fraction of the cost, why can't we?
Americans aren't ready for a major overhaul of the health-care system."
New England Journal of Medicine
WEDNESDAY, Dec. 10 (HealthDay News) -- Science is verifying what many overeaters have suspected for a long time: sugar can be addictive. The sweetener seems to prompt the same chemical changes in the brain seen in people who abuse drugs such as cocaine and heroin.
American College of Neuropsychopharmacology's
"Drinking large amounts of sugar water when hungry can cause behavioral changes and even neurochemical changes in the brain which resemble changes that are produced when animals or people take substances of abuse.
"A "sugar addiction" may even act as a "gateway" to later abuse of drugs such as alcohol, Hoebel said. "The same thing is true of eating," he added. "Fattening food has an impact on the regulating mechanism that breaks down your sense of fullness, makes you feel an urge to go back and get that blast of sugar and this creates the vicious cycle of weight gain that we're going through.

Research on mice links fast food to Alzheimer's
Mice fed junk food for nine months showed signs of developing the abnormal brain tangles strongly associated with Alzheimer's disease,\ a Swedish researcher said on Friday.
A diet rich in fat, sugar and cholesterol could increase the risk of the most common type of dementia.
Journal of the American Medical Association’s 2008 startling conclusion.
The start of screening mammography programs throughout Europe has been associated with increased incidence of breast cancer.
Did the x-rays and/or the sometimes torturous compression of breasts during mammography actually spur cancer to develop? Or does this just look like an increase in the disease rate because mammography is simply identifying more cases of breast cancer?
Bottom line: the scientists conclude this indicates that some of the cancers detected by mammography would have spontaneously regressed if they had never been discovered on a mammogram and treated, usually with chemotherapy and radiation. Simply put, it appears that some invasive breast cancers simply go away on their own, healed by the body’s own immune system.
THE CURE FOR CANCER HAS BEEN DISCOVERED
Harvard Health Publications revealed that the American Institute for Cancer Research
(AICR) found the cure for cancer. It's not what you think Harvard would report – it's not a drug, surgery, or medical anything. It's how you're body is functioning and the lifestyle that effects function.
There were 8 very, very clear findings that showed where cancer
comes from. All of these findings in some way shape or form are FULLY
related to the 5 Essentials of Maximized Living
THE STUDY SHOWED THAT VERY FEW PEOPLE UNDERSTOOD THE CANCER –
MAXIMIZED LIVING CONNECTION:
1. 50% of Americans think that preventing cancer is either impossible
or highly unlikely.
2. Only 49% were aware that diets low in fruits and vegetables increase cancer
risk.
3. Only 46% cited obesity as a risk factor for cancer.
4. Only 37% knew of alcohol's link to cancer.
5. Only 36% were aware of the link between diets high in processed meat — and cancer.
6. one third of cancers worldwide could be avoided through diet and activity.
Food, Nutrition, Physical Activity and the Prevention of
Cancer: A Global Perspective took five years to complete and was
Based on more than 7,000 scientific studies. It is the most
comprehensive review ever published of the science linking cancer risk
to function, diet, physical activity and weight.

Would you be shocked to learn that the wave of Alzheimer's now sweeping the western world might have been caused by vaccines?
It's true: Vaccines contain chemicals designed to cause inflammation (to amp up the immune response), and as Byron Richards explains in today's feature article, this could be the root cause behind the epidemic of Alzheimer's now striking people younger than 50!

Below are some quotes from one of the worlds leading athorities on the flu shot link to Alzheimer's.
Since flu shot season is approaching I thought it appropriate to remind everyone that according to Hugh Fudenberg, MD, the world's leading immunogeneticist and 13th most quoted
Dr. Fudenberg claims this is due to the mercury and aluminum in flu shots (and many childhood and RhoGam shots); these toxins build up in the brain causing cognitive dysfunction. Is that why Alzheimer's is expected to quadruple? (2)
By the way, to disprove the Alzheimer's/flu shots connection, some Toronto MDs went to nursing homes and asked people with Alzheimer's if they remember getting a flu shot. Most said they didn't remember getting one. Not surprising since Alzheimer's victims may not remember the names of their spouse. Anyway, based on this "research" they concluded the flu shots were safe but the disclaimer at the bottom of the abstract negated its value: "Because of the self-reported nature of the risk factor questionnaire we cannot exclude the possibility of recall bias." (3) Can you believe that the media reported this as "proof" the flu shot was safe? They didn't mention the disclaimer. Maybe they all had too many flu shots?
